Multiple thanks to Lyn at Great Imaginations for this very fun book tag. Wait, aren’t they all fun?? Yes, yes they are.
Book That Totally Should’ve Had a Sequel
This is so tough, because sequels usually disappoint me, and I loved how these ended. But it’s true, I could definitely use more stories from the world of…
Book/Series That Totally Should’ve Had a Spinoff
I don’t even care what happens in that novel, I just need to roll around in this world and Naomi Novik’s beautiful world building and the chemistry.
Author That Totally Should Write More Books
Oh man, ELI BROWN. I respect your talent, sir, and I need more. Or maybe I just need to re-read this book every two months.
Character That Totally Should’ve Ended Up With Someone Else
Tessa should’ve ended up with Jem, not the Victorian version of Jace. But I guess Cassandra Clare doesn’t believe Asian musician drug addicts deserve love.
Book That Totally Should’ve Ended Differently
I loved this mystery BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO ROB AS A KID?! It’s killing me that French never resolved the quasi magical realism/quasi hidden serial killer/quasi gang murder question, and apparently never will.
Book Series That Totally Should’ve Had a Movie Franchise
Better yet, a long run as an HBO series. Ben Browder and Claudia Black can be in it…
Book/Series That Totally Should’ve Been a TV Show
Isn’t this just self-evident? Of course, this would have to happen on a mature network, considering the social issues addressed, the violence, and the sex.
Book That Totally Should’ve Had One Point of View
I would’ve welcomed a single, solitary perspective to keep the story focused on whatever the main concept was supposed to be (Le Cirque du Reves? the competing magicians?).
Book That Totally Should’ve Had a Cover Change
I know this was in the era of D&D cover ripoffs for every high fantasy novel, but this is just SO. BAD. Why does Moraine look like a halfling with a pituitary gland problem, next to Lan? And yes, I know they redid the series covers…but they’re just as cheap and generic looking (albeit less busy).
Book That Totally Should’ve Kept the Original Cover
The leftmost cover is the original hardback (intriguing!), the middle is the original paperback (creepy!), the rightmost is the horrible, stupid, no good, very bad cover remake. WHY would you do that? The righthand cover makes it look like some time traveling bizarro chick lit with a super cheap publisher who thinks we’re still in 1992.
Series That Totally Should’ve Stopped at Book One
The first book was awesome- testy MC, super atmospheric creep factor in the world, and an earnest emotional connection to the characters. The second and third novels fell flat, for me, in each of those areas.
